ARE YOU A FAN OF ART?
Our group was very surprised with these results, as we were standing in front of the GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art), and a third of the people said no they weren’t fans (some said they liked it but weren’t big fans). These results might have been because as I previously mentioned some said they weren’t fans, but did like it, while others were probably just walking past the gallery as we were standing about 20 metres in front of it. DOES ART HAVE A STRONG PRESENCE IN BRISBANE? Three fifths of the people we asked to do our survey said they believed that yes it did have a strong presence, while two fifths said they didn’t think it had a strong presence, which they justified a lot of the time by saying that it was a new city. DOES ART IN BRISBANE RELFECT WELL ON THE CITIES IMAGE? When we asked people on the street this, 34 of 50 said that yes it did reflect well. The remaining 16 we asked which said no it didn’t reflect well, said that it didn’t make Brisbane look bad, but not a lot of people outside knew about the galleries in Brisbane. DOES ART CONTRIBUTE TO THE ECONOMY? I personally thought this was an obvious question, but despite what I thought 7 out of the 50 people still said no that they didn’t think it contributed to the economy. They might have said it because maybe the art didn’t earn a lot of money, or maybe because it was owned by private companies not the government. I think it would contribute to the economy as it attracts tourists. DOES ART IN BRISBANE ATTRACT TOURISTS? Most people that we asked thought that art did attract tourists, but 9 out of the 50 said that it did not attract tourists. They might have said it because they think that the galleries and art in Brisbane are unknown to anyone outside of Brisbane. |
